Sally Horsfall Eaton’s career is a testament to her unwavering commitment to service. As the founding CEO of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, she played a pivotal role in shaping one of Canada’s most impactful grant-making organizations, leading it for a decade. Her leadership extended to the Canadian Hearing Foundation, where she served as its founding CEO, championing the rights and needs of people with hearing impairments. Her advocacy for individuals with disabilities has been a cornerstone of her career, and her efforts have paved the way for greater inclusivity and accessibility in Canadian society.

In 2012, Sally Horsfall Eaton made history as the first chancellor of an Ontario college, taking on the role at George Brown College. As the inaugural chancellor, she became the titular head of the institution, actively participating in graduation ceremonies, presenting degrees, diplomas, and certificates, and representing the college at key events. Her dedication to education and her belief in the transformative power of learning were evident throughout her tenure, which was extended with a second term in 2015.

Her influence in education extends beyond George Brown College. She served on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Faculty of Community Services at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), where the Sally Horsfall Eaton Centre for Studies in Community Health was named in her honor. She also contributed as a Trustee of McMaster University and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Ryerson University, where she continues to serve on a Dean’s Advisory Committee.

Sally Horsfall Eaton’s dedication to community health and well-being is reflected in her extensive board and advisory roles. She has chaired and served on the boards of numerous organizations, including St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital, the BREAKFAST FOR LEARNING Canadian Living Foundation, and the Advisory Board on the Voluntary Sector for the Premier’s Office in Ontario. Her leadership extended to Green Shield Canada, the Centre for Studies of Children at Risk, and the Canadian Coordinating Council on Deafness, among many others.

Her passion for caregiving and disability advocacy was further demonstrated through her role as Honorary Chair of the Festival of International Conferences on Caregiving, Disability, Aging, and Technology (FICCDAT) in 2007 and 2011. She also played a key role in fundraising education, serving on the faculty of the Humber College/CCP certificate course on Fundraising Management.

Sally Horsfall Eaton’s remarkable contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including her appointment as a Member of the Order of Canada and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Ryerson University. Married to John Craig Eaton, she enjoys a variety of hobbies, including fly fishing, llama driving, flying as a private pilot, tennis, and golf.
